ELA: Three to Try in Social Studies

Posted on

We’ve reached the mid-year point and content area reading is getting tough for many of our students. Try supporting struggling readers with one of these alternatives to Round Robin Reading!

powtoon“Stop ‘N’ Think”, “It Says, I Say, And So…”, and “Compare and Contrast Map” are three easily implemented research-based strategies for helping readers access difficult text and comprehend content area material. Watch this short video as an introduction to each strategy and then download step-by-step teacher guides for each reading strategy, graphic organizers, and formative assessment ideas from my Dropbox folder. If you’d like to have one of these strategies modeled in your classroom or would like support using one of these strategies to build a lesson, please contact me at jolsen@sd273.com

For more strategies for supporting readers with difficult text  be sure to attend our ELA Series Workshop February 6 and 13 at Seltice Elementary.
