ELA: Book Recommendation

Posted on Updated on

Looking for the perfect book to help navigate the Idaho Core? Look no further! I’ve found it!

Common Core Lesson Book

I ordered Gretchen Owocki’s The Common Core Lesson Book K-5 last week after thumbing through a copy a fourth grade teacher had on her desk. After several days of waiting, the book finally came yesterday and it has QUICKLY become my go-to resource for everything Common Core and ELA.

The book is broken down by Reading Anchor Standard and provides easy-to-read and interpret learning progressions from K-5.  For each Anchor Standard, Owocki offers ideas for demonstrating new concepts, identifying which students need differentiation, collaborative group ideas, and then applications for independent practice. This book is worth it alone for the number of reproducible graphic organizers targeting each standard. The comprehension and fluency strategies are an added bonus.

The first few pages are available for preview free on Amazon. If you’d like to sneak a peek at my soon to be dog-eared copy, please send me an email at jolsen@sd273.com
